There are two editions of Castlevania: Belmont's Curse. The Standard Edition is digital only and costs $29.99. The Midnight Edition costs $39.99, adds a Digital Sound & Art Gallery and three in-game items, and is the only version you can buy physically.
Side by side
| Standard | Midnight Edition | |
|---|---|---|
| Price (Steam US) | $29.99 | $39.99 |
| The game | Full game | Full game, identical build |
| Digital Sound & Art Gallery | Not included | Included, installs separately |
| Costumes | None | Trevor Style, Sypha Style |
| Extra relic | None | Family's Grace |
| Pre-order bonus | Alucard Style Costume | Alucard Style Costume |
| Physical version | Digital only | PS5, Xbox Series, Switch |
| Official install size | 8 GB, 4 GB on Switch | 10 GB, 6 GB on Switch |
The single most repeated mistake about this game is that the pre-order bonus differs between editions. It does not. The Alucard Style Costume is the pre-order reward for both, so if that is the thing you want, buying the cheaper edition gets you the same thing.

What the Midnight Edition actually adds
Three things, and only one of them is substantial.
The Digital Sound & Art Gallery. This is the reason to upgrade. It contains more than a hundred concept art pieces and sketches, and it embeds a music player built around the game's 71-track list, which is documented in full on the soundtrack page. It installs as a separate application rather than appearing inside the game menu, so it is something you open deliberately. Two costumes. Trevor Style and Sypha Style outfits for Rose, cosmetic only. * One relic. Family's Grace, an in-game relic that sits alongside the combat relics described on the gameplay page.
Nothing else changes: same game, same content, same launch date. The $10 is not buying you a season pass, early access or extra levels, because there is no season pass or early access to buy. The two editions are separate Steam packages, 1601540 for Standard and 1601550 for Midnight.
Physical copies: what is real
Only the Midnight Edition has a physical release, and it is available on PS5, Xbox Series and Switch. PS5 and Xbox Series use Blu-ray discs; the Switch version is a game card.
One detail catches people out: the physical version still requires a download from the online store. Konami states this outright on the product page. A disc in this case is a licence and a base install, not a self-contained copy, so plan for the same download you would need with a digital purchase.
⚠️ Not confirmed. Several retailers are reported to be bundling a Steelbook with the physical Midnight Edition, and community coverage treats it as a general release rather than a retailer exclusive. There is no official source for it, stock reports conflict, and Konami has not described the packaging. Treat the Steelbook as a retailer offer to verify locally, not as part of the edition.
How this compares with buying later
Nothing about either edition is time-limited beyond the pre-order costume. The gallery, the costumes and the relic are part of the Midnight Edition permanently, so there is no deadline forcing a launch-day decision apart from the Alucard costume. If you are still deciding whether the game itself is for you, the free demo is the cheaper way to find out, and its progress carries into whichever edition you eventually buy.
FAQ
Do both editions get the same pre-order bonus?
Yes. The Alucard Style Costume is the pre-order reward for the Standard and the Midnight Edition alike.
Which edition is physical?
Only the Midnight Edition. The Standard Edition is digital on every platform.
Does the physical version work offline?
Not completely. Konami says the physical version requires an additional download from the online store, so you need a connection before the disc is fully playable.
Is the Digital Sound & Art Gallery part of the game?
No, it installs as a separate application. It holds more than a hundred concept art pieces and sketches plus a built-in music player, and you launch it separately from the game.
Is there a Steelbook edition?
Not officially. Retailer Steelbook bundles exist in community reports, but there is no Konami source describing one and no confirmed list of shops carrying it.
